Meet Leah McLean

Leah returns to Absolute Volleyball Club as the Co-Head Coach of 12 Black and Assistant Coach of 14 Black for the 2025–26 season. In 2024–25, she served as Co-Head Coach of 11 Black and Assistant Coach of 14 Black. Leah has also previously coached at the 12s and 14s levels at AVC.

As a player, Leah was a standout setter at AVC from ages 10–18, beginning on the club’s first-ever 11s team. She helped lead her teams to USAV Junior Nationals five consecutive years, earning top-six finishes in the National Division in 2017 and 2018. She was named to the All-Tournament Team at Junior Nationals in 2017 while competing in the 16 National Division.

Leah’s high school career at Marin Catholic was equally impressive. She was a multiple-time MCAL First Team selection, graduated in 2019 as the program’s all-time leader in career assists, assists per set (11.1), and single-season assists (1,200), and was named the Marin IJ Volleyball Player of the Year in 2018. That same season, she helped lead Marin Catholic to a California State Championship. During her four years, the Wildcats achieved 132 wins, 4 NCS section titles, and 3 MCAL titles. She was also named Marin Catholic’s team MVP in her senior year.

Continuing at the collegiate level, Leah played five years of Division I volleyball at California Baptist University (CBU), where she was a five-year starter and two-year team captain. She led the team in assists in four of her five seasons, surpassing 2,000 career assists, and earned multiple selections to the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) All-Academic Team. Leah graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration and a Master’s degree in Business Administration. She finished her career ranked 7th all-time in CBU program history for assists, and 2nd in the program’s Division I era.

Leah’s coaching philosophy is centered on developing well-rounded athletes who are not only skilled and tactical, but also resilient and passionate about the game. She strives to create a supportive, competitive environment where players develop advanced technical skills, a deep love for the sport, and the confidence to reach their full potential.
