Meet Benji Saetang
Benji Saetang returns for his seventh season at Absolute Volleyball Club, where he will serve as Assistant Club Director and Head Coach of 14 Pink and Assistant for 17 Black for the 2025–26 season. Since joining AVC in 2019, he has been the steady leader of the 14 Pink program while also assisting across multiple age groups from 15s through 17s. With 17 years of coaching experience, Benji has also made an impact at Palo Alto VBC, Encore VBC, and Academy VBC.
Benji’s coaching career is marked by consistent team success and player development. At AVC, his 14 Pink teams have earned six bids to USAV Nationals, including a rare triple bid in 2023. His résumé also includes guiding Palo Alto High School’s varsity program to a league championship and an Open Division berth in the CIF State Championship Tournament, assisting Menlo College to a league title and NAIA national championship berth, and serving as Director of Operations for the University of San Francisco women’s volleyball program. His ability to prepare athletes and build competitive, cohesive teams has established him as a trusted leader within the club.
As a player, Benji competed as a setter and opposite at George Washington High School in San Francisco, where he helped capture the school’s first-ever boys’ volleyball league championship. He continued his playing career at San Jose State University, where he competed on the club team and graduated with a degree in Kinesiology, specializing in Sport Psychology and Societal Studies. His playing background, paired with his academic training, strongly informs his approach to coaching.
Benji’s coaching philosophy centers on using volleyball as a vehicle to teach life skills. He emphasizes responsibility, resilience, communication, and emotional management, guiding athletes to grow on and off the court. Certified through NAIA, NASM (PES), NFHS, IMPACT, and CPR/First Aid, he is committed to creating a safe and challenging learning environment. Away from the gym, Benji is an avid traveler—having visited more than 45 countries with a goal of exploring all seven continents—and also enjoys cruising and snowboarding.
